DESCRIPTION:
The trial is carried out in 4 m2 open bottom lysimeters, 80 cm deep.
The experimental treatments derive from the factorial combination of 3 types of soil (clay, peaty, sandy) with 6 methods of mineral, organic or mixed fertilisation.
The fertilisation levels are as follows:
T) no fertilisation
L1) manure (20 t ha-1 per year)
M1) mineral fertilistion (100 kg ha-1 N - 50 P2O5 - 140 K2O per year)
L1M1) manure (20 t ha-1 per year) + mineral f. (100 kg ha-1 N-50 P2O5 -140 K2O per year)
L2) manure (40 t ha-1 per year)
M2) mineral fertilistion (200 kg ha-1 N - 100 P2O5 - 280 K2O per year)
The corresponding levels of organic or mineral fertilisation supply the same average amounts of NPK.
The distribution pattern is completely randomised with two replications, for a total of 36 plots.
Until 1984 the trial was conducted with a two-year maize-wheat rotation. After this, an open rotation of horticultural crops was adopted in the period 1985-1992, with the same overall fertilisation levels used for maize when a single crop was sown. From 1993 onwards there has been a four-year rotation of Wheat – Sugarbeet – Tomato – Maize.
